MM to MS, 30 Aug 2009

Our August trip to Cali concluded in Glendale, a suburb of L.A., for my cousin Mike's marriage to Mahshid. As ours was the first "JewMaican" wedding in the family, this one could be labeled as our first "JewPersian" wedding!

The festivities started on Friday. As the men ventured off together to the bachelor party, the much classier ladies dined at the beautiful Persian restaurant Shiraz. We ate the most delicious Kebabs ever imagined, while being entertained by a hypnotic belly dancer!

The dancing was contagious, as the bride-to-be and the moms got in on the act!

The following evening, the families got together (this time Italian-style) at a delicious outdoor rehearsal dinner.

I bonded with my new family....over tequila shots! What else?

Sunday, August 30th was the big day! We started with a photo shoot...

The Shapiro family attempts to pose for a family portrait (Rohan is hidden by Uncle Jimmy)...

The cousins get it right, as always.

The gorgeous couple.

The ceremony site was set up traditionally for both cultures: a Chuppah (wedding canopy) for the Jewish side, combined with a Sofre (a spread of lavish and symbolic items) underneath for the Persian side.

Mike walks down the aisle oh-so-calmly with his parents....

The best man Rob and Alma are next....

Followed by Beth, Jenny, Nathan, and sleeping Maya....

Then Suzanne and Jonathan (Sarah was at home in CT with baby Lily)....

And last, but certainly not least, me and David dance down the aisle to the Persian processional!

The Barons watch the ceremony performed by Uncle Stephen, as Ro hides his face from me behind the program!

The happiest couple I have ever seen exchange vows!

The kiss, followed by the breaking-of-the-glass. Mazel tov!

Let the cocktail hour begin! (But Rob had to wait until after his Toast!)

There was a Persian tea hostess at the reception, and she literally sat like this all night!

The newleyweds dance with Mahshid's grandmother!

Cousin Joel (from California), Mom, Cousin Alana and her husband Pierre (from Paris!).

Cousin Judy (Leslie's Mom! from Cali), Cousin Donna, and Mom pose!

Suzanne and Sam enjoy the party.

Siblings!

After a change of dress, the garter slips off!

Dancing (Beth and I LOVED the Persian music, and we were pretty good at it, if I do say so myself)!

It was a beautiful night, and a beautiful trip! The Malek family was the most gracious of hosts! Congratulations Mike and Mahshid! Many blessings for a long and happy marriage!
